What is Modern Slavery?
Modern slavery is a serious crime and human rights abuse where a person is exploited for personal or commercial gain. This can include:
Forced labour or being made to work under threat or coercion
Human trafficking or being moved or recruited through exploitation
Domestic servitude, sexual exploitation, or other forms of abuse
Signs to Look Out For
Staff, service users, and partners should be aware of potential indicators, including:
Individuals who appear to be controlled, fearful, or anxious
Unpaid or underpaid work, or working excessive hours
Limited freedom of movement or being accompanied at all times
Poor living conditions, malnutrition, or lack of access to medical care
Reluctance to speak for themselves or provide personal documents
If you suspect someone is a victim of modern slavery, it is crucial to report it immediately through safe channels.
If you are or someone you know is in immediate danger call 999.
